Metalwork

Embossed and chiselled metalwork is the oldest forming process.
It enables a sheet of metal to be shaped using a hammer and chisel on a mould out of hard material, wood, as is the case here. For small items, the technique used is direct embossing: the metal is pressed on a leather cushion filled with sand to create hollow forms. Nails or rivets are then used to join the whole work together.
