Holy Chrism

These flasks were generally used to hold the Holy Chrism or "Myron", the holy oil.
It is made of olive oil with flower essences infused for forty days, according to a secret formula dating back to the 8th century. It is prepared every seven years, in public view, in a cauldron on the altar of the cathedral of Etchmiadzin by the Catholicos of all Armenians. According to tradition, the new blessed "Myron" always contains a part of the previous one prepared seven years previously, and this has been done since the original. Identity, transmission and permanence are the pillars of the faith that united Armenians beyond its borders, and for which the Holy Chrism is the connection. Still today, this ""Myron"" is taken to monasteries and churches around the world for blessings.
