The boteh is a decorative pattern used in the east, especially on fabrics and carpets, but also in jewellery. Very often considered as a symbol, it reached the west as an decoration on shawls or draperies. It takes various shapes and can look like a leaf, a flower, or even a pine cone. It probably originates from Central Asia and is also found in Persia or Kashmir.
