NORAVANK MONASTERY

The Noravank Monastery is located on a rocky promontory and was built in the 13th and 14th centuries. The complex consists of the church of St. Karapet (1227) with its narthex (1261) on the left. A chapel-mausoleum of the Orbelian Princes and the church of St. Mother of God (right). The latter, built by famous architect and sculptor Momik, is regarded as a masterpiece of Armenian architecture. Completed in 1339, it is characterized by a double external side staircase. It is visible in the photo on the right.
